Google PageRank Update – How Was Your Site Affected?
You’ve probably heard the news about the latest Google PageRank Update. Everyone who’s using search engines as a marketing medium was affected by this update. How were you affected by the update? Did you lose any rankings? Did you gain some rankings?
If your PageRank went up, congrats! That means that your promotion and link building strategies are working well, you need to keep going what you are doing.
If your PageRank went down, it time to think about things that could have caused it. You need to evaluate what you are currently doing to promote your website and honestly ask yourself :
Am I working on each strategy I committed to for 2010? Does each strategy I use really work or just wastes time? Have I experienced results doing a particular strategy? Am I adding value to the web and its users?
I would break everything into a few major categories and analyze one by one:
- Article Marketing
- Social Media Marketing
- Video Marketing
- Press Release Marketing
- Event Marketing
- Relationship Marketing
- Directory Submissions
- Reciprocal Linking
- Spamming (I hope this is not in your list:))
After your analysis, you will know what strategies you should continue executing and which ones you should stop. For example, you might remember that couple of months ago you signed up for some crummy splogging or link renting scheme, which promised you #1 spot on Google. Well, my friend, there is no guaranteed overnight success:) In that case could exit all the strategies that might damage your reputation. Also, if you have noticed that writing and publishing quality articles was successful strategy, keep doing it, and do more of it.
Your honest self analysis and proper execution of strategies that work will be key to your success in promoting your website and hopefully next time Google updates its PageRank, you will be the one who’s celebrating.
